About the IT University of Copenhagen 


The IT University is an independent educational and research institution, dedicated to the digital world. From games and communication to business and software development.

The university has a strong research environment including a comprehensive PhD programme and offers a variety of research based study programmes, part time and also single subject studies within the field of IT.

It was founded in 1999 as IT-Højskolen, but changed its name to the IT University in 2003. The Vice Chancellor of the IT University is Mads Tofte. The chair of the Board of the IT University is Mogens Munk Rasmussen.

The IT University is creating more IT graduates, than any other university in Denmark.

Mission


The mission of the IT University of Copenhagen is to deliver internationally leading teaching and research which enable Denmark to become exceptionally good at creating value with IT. Teaching and research in information technology include all academic activities which involve computers.(Decided by the Board of the IT University on Dec. 2, 2005.)

The IT University of Copenhagen is an outstanding example of how a small university by being innovative and globally interactive can achieve a ranking among the best in the world, both in terms of academic standards and in terms of creation of value.

The strategies for the university are manifested through a series of results from the development contract, which every two years is agreed upon by the IT University and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Research

The IT University wishes to contribute its research to Denmark becoming a nation which is particular good at creating value by the aid of IT. This presupposes that the research is of the highest international standards and is addressing the challenges, by which the solutions can lead into new insight and ways of applying the use of IT.The IT University has a PhD programme which is one of the largest in Denmark within the field of IT. The researchers at the IT University are organised in trade groups. Each trade group is researching, teaching and counselling PhD students.

Education

The IT University is offering a wide series of study programmes, covering a lot of different approaches to IT. The study programmes are planned with the aim of the lessons and the academic level being on the highest level possible.More than 1,500 students are attending the different programmes at the university, including:
  • Five two-year Master of Science courses. These courses are offered on a full-time basis and include a research component. After completing one of these courses the graduate is awarded the title of Master of Science in Information Technology
  • Three Master courses. These courses are offered on a part-time basis over three years. Graduates are awarded the title of Master of Information Technology
  • One part-time graduate diploma course. Graduates are awarded the title Diploma in Information Technology.
