[Note: The system is not online because of copyright issues, this is only the introduction. Links will work only to the entry page of each hypertext, but not within the hypertexts, if you want more information please mail me] HOW TO USE THESE HYPERTEXTS These hypertexts are to be used at the same time or after the reading of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James Joyce. Each hypertext can be used independently but it has to be part of a "virtual classroom" or group of organized readers, since the contributions that are sent via forms have to be managed by an instructor and the collaborative building of a critical net is better experienced in small groups where people get the chance to "talk" to each other through the system. If you got an invitation from the author to participate in this experiment, please don't hesitate and enter the dialogue! Interaction is very simple: you read the instructions for each particular hypertext (under its title in the menu bar), navigate it, and when you want to contribute, just fill in the provided forms. Soon after (the next day at the latest), the instructor will have added your piece to the common net, and people will be able to respond to it. There will probably be weekly topics or areas where contribution is expected, please follow your lecturer's instructions. If you are a lecturer and want to try these educational hypertexts in your course, mail me about how to get an "empty" copy of the system that you can then administer for your class. You would need to host the hypertexts in a server that supports cgi scripting so that the forms can work. I'd also be interested in adaptations of the system to the teaching of other authors/areas. © Susana Pajares Tosca
